The origin of the word Pural is the Mugera language. The word Pural means Flute in Tulu language. The place where the temple was located was known as Pural in ancient times. The nearest city from the temple is Mangalore at 19 km away. The Phalguni river flows on the northern side of the temple. The temple is surrounded by lush paddy fields.
